The fundraising website GoFundMe.com remains adamant in their refusal to release funds that have been raised to save the lives of four horses and a dog in southern Spain. Without theses funds, these animals-in-need will meet a certain death.
Over the course of the last two years, my wife, daughter, and I have been involved with the rescue of 4 horses and a dog in southern Spain who were abused, neglected, and malnourished. We have provided them with food and care, and we are proud to say that today they are healthy and happy.
The reason that I had listed the campaign’s location as Spain, as that is where the animals are. However, I am a citizen of the USA, with a US bank, and Go Fund Me does not possess the capabilities to transfer funds between different currencies, and it is not possible to edit any settings once a campaign has gone live.
A customer service agent for Go Fund Me suggested that we find someone in Spain that we can appoint as the beneficiary, and receive the funds on on our behalf in their Spanish bank.
This was a longshot, but what alternative did we have?
That’s when more trouble began, and I began to realize that perhaps Go Fund Me is a scam. I hope I am wrong, but it would certainly appear as though their goal is to raise money, but not release it, and earn interest off of the sum of the donations while they are holding up the access to the funds.
When I asked for a copy of their private bank statement this person must have thought I was a Nigerian Prince involved with identity theft! Not to mention the serious privacy matters that this violates as I would be privy to all of their transaction history and financial status!
I have provided them with three suitable options:
1) Allow the funds from our campaign to be withdrawn by me, with a US bank account.
2) Transfer the funds from the original campaign to the second campaign (based in the USA).
3) Send our funds to the appointed beneficiary, who has already provided name, contact info, and pertinent banking info in Spain.
If you would like to contribute, please donate to the US version of our campaign by clicking HERE.
