You have a thriving horse business, you’re a member of stable-mates.com, but you know there are things you could be doing better.
You know that information is available online, and maybe you even have your own website and social media pages (who can do business without them these days?).
But you’re spending way too much time in front of your computer when you have a zillion other things to do to keep your business running smoothly. Maybe it’s time you started using smart-apps for your routine tasks!
Here are our favorite apps to help you make things easier, faster, and more efficient.

- Profit management
An extremely easy way to manage all the information you need for no matter how many horses you have in your business. More geared to the economic side of your business rather than recording information about the horses’ training, health, or breeding records.
Stable Secretary – Android and iPhone

This all-inclusive app is great for managing your horse business, as it allows you to keep equine health and business records all together in one place. Share data across devices and save yourself time and money. You can:

Stable Secretary is available in three versions: Essentials, Performance, and Professional. This app is just what you need to run your business and the cost is based upon how many horses you care for. If you just want to keep records and allow the software company to do all your billing, that’s an option, too.
Equine M – Android and iPhone
This scheduler makes keeping all your appointments and work assignments easy. Track what’s going on with each horse and designate tasks to all your barn personnel in one place, accessible anywhere you have internet access, anywhere in the world. You can:

Hay Price Calc – iPhone
One of the biggest cost factors in managing horse businesses is the price of hay, which changes nearly every day. With this app, figuring out what is the most economical way to purchase hay is quick and to the point. Figuring the price per ton is simple when you choose the size of a bale (small square, large round, or large square), the weight and the prices per bale. All the work is done for you! Note: this app does not take into consideration the quality of hay in its calculations.
Horse Trail App – iPhone and Android
This navigation app is not only useful for finding trails, but includes features that could save your or your horse’s life! Here’s what’s included:
- Map style directions to the staging area
- Description of the trails including scenery and difficulty
- List of amenities available for horse and rider
- Locations of equine vets in proximity to the trail
- Locations of overnight stables in the US and around the world
- “Text your location” so others can find you if you or your horse are injured
Perfect app for the trail riding facility or trekking business, this one grows as more users contribute to the database. A “rating” and “review” feature allows information to be kept current, and a “report” function enables trails to be marked as “no longer useable” or “dangerous.”
iStable Equestrian – iPhone
Note: Not a standalone app.
Although this app requires the use of the iStable web stable management software, it is so comprehensive that I decided to include it here. This allows you to centrally manage all horses across multiple facilities, so if you are a racehorse trainer with horses in various locations or a sport horse trainer with horses at more than one barn, this is definitely for you. Or perhaps you are an owner with horses training at multiple locations. This is for you, too. Here’s why:
- Manage multiple horses
- Record all activities which are archived and instantly available for billing purposes
- Maintain a multimedia gallery for each horse
- View all documents
- Owner specific or general notes with the ability to make them urgent
If you have not chosen management program software for you horse business, or if you are unhappy with the one you are currently using, I encourage you to look into iStable.
Horse Notes – iPhone and Android
An easy and comprehensive app for keeping track of lots of horses and horse records. If you use HorsesNotes.com website, the app syncs both ways with your online records. It also lets you:

Horse Diary – iPhone and Android
Horse Diary is a little bit different. Although it does keep track of details about the horses in your charge, it allows you to do things that other apps don’t leave room for. Keeping a diary of what’s going on in your barn, one the road, on the trail, or away at shows or on treks is an important part of horse management. Especially when you have multiple horse or riders to remember, mere facts are not quite enough. It’s helpful to keep records of moods, situations, and notes about what’s going on so that you can better understand the animals and people in your charge. Attach photos to your diary and allow your boarders or riders to access the stories that make the business worthwhile!
Horse BCS – iPhone and Android
A different kind of horse health app, this one helps you determine body conditioning scores on one horse or multiple horses. Whether you own one horse, manage a stable, or work with horse-related law enforcement, this app will allow you to instantly decide whether the horses in your care are healthy or not, based on Body Conditioning Score. Extremely helpful to gauge how horses are improving under you care, and you can attach photographs to document their progress.
As our world becomes more automated, it not only is easier to keep track of the endless records of horse and rider information, it makes you more professional as well.
Today’s riders and horse owners expect you to know how their horse is doing at any given moment. Billable time can be followed with the click of a key so that nothing gets lost in the shuffle, and emergencies can be taken care of in an instant.
These apps can help you run your business and put your mind at ease, knowing your records are right there at your fingertips anytime you need them. Give one a try, and let us know your feedback!
